China Unicom recently announced its partnership with the developers of GyPSii, a mobile social networking app, in time for its new 3G service, UniSpace. Currently, 5 million customers in Shanghai are able to download GyPSii to their devices from UniSpace’s site. After that, Unicom plans to expand the app’s availability to its 130 million subscribers in China.

GyPSii is accessible on a wide variety of mobile platforms, including Windows Mobile. It allows you to geotag & share media content, locate people and discover new places. "GyPSii's ability to deliver an all-in-one, location-aware mobile social networking experience is proving extremely popular in China, with people using the application to create and share content, as well as connect with each other across a range of networks and devices," said Mr. Lu Dongliang, Deputy General Manager of Shanghai Unicom.

GyPSii isn’t just being used in China, however, it’s being used worldwide on many mobile devices. In fact, Samsung’s WiMAX enabled Windows Mobile MID is said to come preloaded with it. If you’re interested in taking GyPSii for a test run, just point your device’s browser to GyPSii's mobile site and download it for free. Let us know if you think it’ll succeed or not among the 130 million China Unicom customers.
